My daughter and I decided to go to a movie up here in Seattle. We’re staying in North Seattle (Bothell) and got on Fandango to see where the closest theater was. When we got there, the first thing I noticed was there was no popcorn counter. Instead, there was a bar in the center of the lobby. Entering the theater was the second big surprise. Rows of seats with a table in front of them that went the entire length of the row. And there was a space between the table and the next row of seats.
What we stumbled upon was a new type of theater that turns out only opened 2 days ago. It’s the 4th one in the entire United States. There’s a menu with pizza, salads, and other food and a full bar menu. Servers come into the theater and take your order and once the movie starts, you can order more by writing down what you want and sticking it on a metal clip on the table. When the movie is 45 minutes from the end, they close your tab and give you your check which you pay (with tip).
There were only a few other people in the movie we went to. I saw pitchers of beer being delivered but didn’t notice any food. My daugther and I ordered a pitcher of diet coke which was brought to us with plastic cups. Cost was $7 (plus tax and tip).
When we got back to the hotel, I googled to see if they were all around Seattle which is when I found out they had just opened this one and it’s target audience is the 18+ crowd (no one under 18 is allowed in unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian).
I’m not sure if this concept is going to be successful. I guess if someone wants to go and drink alcohol, then this may be a place they end up going. I’m more interested in seeing the movie and don’t want to have to deal with others getting a bit loud as they drink more and more alcohol.
I think I’ll stick with a tub of popcorn and some hot tamales I pick up from Walmart before the movie….
