Beginning this week- as you walk the Morro Bay Beach – you will see more roped off areas with yellow and white signs- near the dunes. It is now Snowy Plover nesting season. These beautiful small birds are endangered so their nesting areas are protected.
Just north of the rock- where the strong and brave surfers gather-there is an area of about ½ mile of beach that does not have these protected nesting areas. This is the section of the beach where you can bring your dogs and walk them- on a leash.
The protected area beings at about paraell to where you can see the US & California flags flying above the RV Park check-in post. This is also where the “Dogs permitted on beach” section ends. The area continues on through Morro Strand Beach.
Whether you are an avid bird watcher or just another lover of nature as I am, you can not help but be amazed with the incredible variety of birds that either live here or simply pass through. It is no wonder Morro Bay is known a Bird Sanctuary!
