Craigslist Scammers Out in Full Force

I received  two different notifications this morning about properties being advertised in the rental section of Craigslist that are really For Sale. The typical scam is that the scammer will find a foreclosure (REO) property that is For Sale and advertise it. The scammers typically use REOs because they know they are vacant.  They usually say they are out of the country and need to rent the property. They’ll send instructions to go  drive-by the property and send a deposit if interested.  The scammer will  usually price the rental really cheap to make it look like it’s such a deal and say that you’d better hurry and get your deposit in before someone else does.

If you know of anyone that is looking for rentals, tell them to Google the address of the rental. If they see it on a Realtors MLS Search as being For Sale, then it’s probably a scam.
