Community of Giving
One of the things I appreciate most about this community is its ability to foster and support so many worthy non-profit organizations; the Family Care Network is among them.
Tomorrow, May 12th they are hosting the annual Miracle Mile for Kids. It’s a 10k walk/run from Morro Rock to Cayucos Pier – one of the most beautiful streteches of our coastline.
Miracle Miles for Kids helps Family Care Network make a difference in the lives of those it serves with funds earned through registration and pledging going to meet the needs of the over 1,000 children, youth and families served by FCNI annually. These funds meet needs like housing, clothing, mentoring, life skills development, supporting extra-curricular activities and therapeutic services. I encourage you to come out and show your support. No child should be without a home.

A Planned Move is a Stress-Free Move
At Meathead Movers, we have completed over 20,000 moves and have learned the importance of preparing for the move. Because moving requires a person to make so many changes in his or her life, there are often things that are forgotten and/or overlooked. For this reason, we have created a moving checklist for our clients so they can prepare for move day. The purpose of this checklist is to remind our clients of major tasks that can be overlooked when dealing with the upcoming transition of a move. Who wants to deal with the stress of moving Albert, the pet turtle, on move day because you forgotten to make relocation plans for him? What about having the family car overheat when following the moving truck to your new home 200 miles away? Situations such as these (and these are actual examples–trust us, we’ve seen it all and more!) can be a disaster and cause a lot of unnecessary stress on move day which are easily avoided if you had planned ahead. Remember, a planned move is a stress-free move!

Relocating to California? Registering your car may cost more than you think!
It is worth a bit of investigation into the fees and ‘not so obvious’ charges that may apply when first registering vehicles in our beautiful state. For instance, apparently if you purchase within 1 year of relocating, you will likely be charged state sales tax….or so I am told by a very shocked and overwhelmed friend. I spent some time on the website but was unable to easily find the charges that they were hit with……no clear way to determine what to expect. There is no appeal to these charges and no way to explain such things as your car being recalled…….doesn’t keep you from having to pay the fees. Other states have this also so the reverse may be true. To investigate further, go to http://dmv.ca.gov.

Winter Scenes from Hwy 46 West

A rare Winter snow blankets Spring blooms. Views looking down on the 46 where the low fog hovers while hilltops are clear and chilly…….all of this in one day!

BIRDS, Birds, birds….
Morro Bay is on the Pacifi
c Flyway, meaning we have an incredible amount of species of birds that stop by on their way to their winter or summer homes. Some stay year round.
So- what better reason to have an annual event?
The 15th Annual Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival of 2011 will be January 14-17th. Over 200 species of birds are seen and identified during this week-end. The festival includes events, field trips, workshops, and newly added this year- “Fun for the Family Day”- offering workshops and field trips geared toward children’s participation. For more info on this festival week-end: www.morrobayfestival.org.

still need one more stocking stuffer?
How about a CO2 Detector? What better way to show you care!
The Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Prevention Act of 2010 goes into effect July 1st, 2011. This act requires a carbon monoxide detector to be in every single-family home at time of sale, similar to the way smoke detectors are currently required.
For multi-family properties, the compliance date is Jan 1, 2013.
Since the gas is odorless, tasteless and virtually undetectable with our senses- these little gadgets have saved many lives.
Happy Holidays!
