Caltrans Bad Planning

If you’ve ever tried to merge onto the 101 freeway using the Northbound onramp at Oak Park Rd. on the border of AG/Pismo, you know it’s not the safest onramp. It’s short and the visibility of the onramp is bad for cars traveling on 101. My wife refuses to use this onramp because of her safety concerns.

So it was great news to hear that Caltrans was going to extend the lane all the way to the next exit (4th street). Over 2 months ago, they moved the lane lines over a bit and put a concrete barrier on the shoulder, creating even a shorter onramp with no options if someone won’t let you merge. Since the barriers were installed, I’ve only seen work done a portion of one day. I wonder how long it’s going to be before any real work on the project is resumed? I’m not aware of any accidents that have occured since the barriers were installed and hope that these barriers don’t cause anything bad to happen.
