Blimp Sighting!

I was driving today and noticed a blimp motoring down the coast. I was at a stop light so I had time to look up and take a good look at it. It wasn’t that far above me and I sat and stared at it but couldn’t make out what the writing on the blimp was. After awhile, I finally figured out that it said “UP” and had a small Disney next to it so it was advertising the upcoming movie about flying with balloons.

Note to Disney Marketing Execs….don’t assume a logo designed for a movie poster is going to be easily read on a blimp, even if the letters are 50 feet tall!

Map Search Not Updating

There’s a problem with my map search in that the listings aren’t updating every day as usual and the new listings (the blue outlined homes) have disappeared. I have contacted the vendor.

You can still use the MLS search menu at the top left of most pages to find the new listings. Only the map search is having update problems right now, all the other MLS searches and MLS new listing reports are up-to-date!

Farmer’s Markets

(submitted by one of our North Coast agents)

Another advantage to living along the central coast are the Farmer’s Markets.
For a very reasonable price, you can buy fresh seasonal fruits and vegatables locally grown.

It is amazing how tasty food is that has been freshly picked!

I use to think buying fresh food from the supermarket was my best choice.
Not any more. From the sensory experience to the nutritional value and on to the bigger picture issues of energy conservation, I now opt for the Farmer’s Markets whenever I can.

Nearly every town/city in San Luis Obispo County has at least one Farmer’s Market a week. Morro Bay has two. One on Thursday afternoons in the Spencer parking lot and the other on Saturday afternoons in the 800 block of Main Street.

Other farmer’s markets:

- Tuesday mornings, Downtown City Park, Paso Robles
- Wednesday mornings at Spencers, Arroyo Grande
- Wednesday afternoons at 41/El Camino Real, Atascadero
- Wednesday afternoons, Town Center, Santa Maria
- Thursday evenings in downtown San Luis Obispo
- Friday mornings, Veterans Hall, Cayucos
- Friday mornings, Walmart parking lot, Paso Robles
- Saturday mornings in Gottschalk’s Parking Lot, San Luis Obispo
- Saturday mornings, Templeton Park (6th and Crocker)
- Saturday afternoons in the Village of Arroyo Grande
- Sunday mornings, Mission and 10th, San Miguel

Mid-month MLS Statistics Check

In the first 15 days of May, we’ve had 289 residential properties in SLO County and Santa Maria/Orcutt go Pending Sale. We also had 289 new listings. This puts us on the same pace as last month.

For distressed properties, of the 81 homes sold in the first 15 days in SLO County, 37% were distressed properties (26% were REOs and 11% were short sales). This is lower than last month (36% were REOs in April).

We’ll see how the 2nd half of May plays out….

Another Drive-in Bites the Dust

This Colorado drive-in was razed to build a new condo complex. We are lucky to have 2 drive-ins still in our area (SLO and Santa Maria). I hope there is enough demand to keep them in business for a very long time.

Early Saturday Morning on the Beach in Morro Bay

(submitted by one of our North Coast agents)

Through the morning fog- it is not always immediately obvious what is going on farther up the beach. Are they filming a movie? Has something happened and a rescue is in process? Nope, neither. This morning, the strong and fit cadets from Camp San Luis Obispo were simply engaged in ocean-side training exercises!
